How to increase the power of a BMW 730d 265hp G11 - G12 with an additional control unit?

Flagship. That's how it should be called! Of course, because the BMW 7 Series has flagship features and equipment, it's in a class of its own. It's not a very common sedan, it's part of the luxury segment, so it's normal to see fewer of them on the road compared to the Series 1, Series 2, or Series 3 (although the Series 5 is quite common). What might surprise some is that there are owners of this beautiful and large car who are looking to increase its performance. And yet...

How does the BMW 730d 265hp G11 - G12 perform in its stock configuration?

It performs well, very well, but we're specifically talking about pure performance here. In this "column," we don't focus much on aesthetics, equipment, or prices. There are reputable automotive magazines for that information. Here, we're talking about electronic tuning, increasing power and torque, technical topics, and motor enthusiasts' curiosity. So, let's get back on track and briefly discuss the stock performance of this beautiful 730d before we get to the core of the matter.

Let's start with its weight, just over 18 quintals (1,800 kilograms). Is that a lot? Not really, considering it's a sedan over 5 meters long, 1.90 meters wide, with a 3-liter 6-cylinder engine under the hood. Even in its stock form, it doesn't perform poorly, thanks to its excellent 6-cylinder common-rail engine, which is capable of delivering power efficiently. It has a unit displacement of approximately 500cc per cylinder with 4 valves per cylinder, a straight-six configuration, a modern injection system, variable geometry intake ducts, a generous turbocharger with electrically controlled wastegate, 265 hp of maximum power at 4,000 rpm, and a robust maximum torque of 620Nm. Paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, this luxury sedan can reach a top speed of 250 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about 6.1 seconds. These are commendable performance figures, but driving this luxury lounge doesn't exactly provide a sporty thrill or an adrenaline rush. So, even though these are excellent stock performance figures, some owners want more from their 6-cylinder common-rail engine, and we don't want to disappoint them!

How much does the power and torque of the BMW 730d 265hp G11 - G12 increase with an additional control unit?

By a lot. But let's take it step by step. I still remember how a friend's 730d 231hp, tuned with an chip tuning additional control unit CHIPBOX DIESEL, used to drive. It had the previous 6-speed Steptronic transmission, not the modern 8-speed one, but the 3-liter BMW engine didn't even feel like a diesel. This was due to the complete absence of noise and vibrations (remember that the straight-six architecture has excellent balance and doesn't even require balance shafts) and the engine's willingness to rev and provide strong acceleration. It had excellent power delivery.

Now, let's talk about this later evolution of the 730d, which has an even more effective starting point and a better automatic transmission. The additional control unit we've prepared for this 3-liter common-rail engine easily connects (as always) without any modifications to the BMW engine wiring. The wiring harnesses come with original BMW connectors and attach like simple extensions to certain engine control sensors, such as the injection system and the turbocharger pressure control system.

Some numbers? Sure, here they are. They are quite impressive numbers, by the way. We're talking about an increase in power of a whopping 50 horsepower and an increase in torque of 100Nm! Yes, you read that correctly. The 730d can now reach 315 hp with a maximum torque of 720Nm. These values, combined with the excellent 8-speed automatic transmission, allow it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 6 seconds from a standstill. The acceleration is lightning-fast, and the engine response is much quicker. Of course, the luxury sedan's comfortable and quiet character remains, but the push you feel when you press the accelerator pedal is something else entirely! It's a beautiful sensation. Did we mention the accelerator pedal? Indeed...

CHIPBOX can provide significant power increases for the BMW 7 Series, but we can also do more to improve performance and driving pleasure. We can provide our PEDALBOOSTER electronic module, which simply attaches to the accelerator pedal position sensor - again, easily connected with original connectors and fully reversible to stock conditions without leaving any traces. PEDALBOOSTER offers various levels of accelerator pedal response, making driving even more sporty and engaging.

Both the additional control unit for power and torque increase, CHIPBOX DIESEL, and the PEDALBOOSTER electronic module for improved engine responsiveness, can be ordered in a CONNECT version. With Bluetooth technology and our app, you can control the power and engine performance of your 730d directly from your smartphone! Incredible, isn't it? Yet, it's a simple reality!

You can install the accelerator pedal module separately (without power and torque increases) or in perfect combination with the CHIPBOX additional control unit, which gives your 7 Series an extra 50 horsepower and 100Nm of torque with a sportier and more exciting response from the 3-liter BMW turbo engine!
